for fun, the council gathers once a year in scenic New Braunfels to clean
the crystal clear Comal River after a season of tubers have
"lost" literally tons of trash. You can be proud that this is
one of the oldest environmental clean up campaigns in the nation --- we
taught the rest of 'em how to do it, Texas style! Why
wait? If you would like to brush up on your diving skills, practice diving
in the shortest river in Texas, enjoy the underwater view or just need to
get wet, New Braunfels just can't be beat. Be sure to wear your Trashfest
T-shirt, and it wouldn't hurt if you pass this on to both your diving and
non-diving friends.
TrashFest 2008
Your Entry Fee includes your eligibility to participate
in the clean-up and a chance of winning a coveted SUPER SCOOPER T-shirt (these
can only be won), a fabulous B-B-Q dinner with beverages and a door prize
ticket for a chance to win one of the numerous prizes. You need not be a
diver to participate, and kids are welcome to join in.
Registration and Dinner will
be held at the Comal County Fairgrounds, 701 E. Common St. For
more information Team Requirements: Up to eight (8) people, no more than six (6)
divers in the water (divers must present C-Card) and two (2) non-divers to act as
grounds crew. Teams must provide their own trash receptacles (mesh or
plastic bags). All entrants will be assigned to a team if they do not
already have a full team. Winning “Super Scooper” t-shirts will be
awarded to first, second and third place teams.
Everything collected must come out of the Comal River during
the hours of competition. The grounds crews primary responsibility is to
assist divers, but they may collect trash from along the river bank.
Category of Entries:
You may enter by weight or item, but not both. Teams must
choose at the weigh-in station which category they wish to enter.
Any un-sportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. The decision
of the judges is final.
Multiple teams (up to three
(3) teams, with a maximum of 24 people) may elect to draw one area of the
river as a group: Getting to TrashFest Coming
from Houston: Exit
I-10 at Seguin on Hwy 46 North. Stay on Hwy 46 North under I-35 (becomes
Loop 337). Take Loop 337 to Common Street, then left. Registration will be
held at the Comal County Fairgrounds on Common Street (on the right). Registration and Awards Ceremony to be held at Comal County Fairgrounds.
