This year
TrashFest collected 1,784 lbs of trash plus 8,898 cans/bottles and
80 shoes and sunglasses! The folks who joined us for the BBQ took
home over $11,000 in door prizes, as well. BAD collected 5200 cans.
The BAD team consisted of 6 divers 2 ground crew. Rowe Henry was the
Captain, Judy Rabren, Rodney (PeeWee) Dwire, Beverly Cutler, Jim
Delane, Joe Pechacek, Ken Ortlon and Ja Van Pruett. BAD had its
own cheering squad - Gloria Pechacek with Baby Moria and Cathy
Schexnider. Cathy gave up her position on the team to let Jim Delane
dive. Randy was the weight-in chairman. This year Bay Area Divers
volunteered to man the food line and served brisket and sausage to
the masses of hungry divers that did such a great job of cleaning up
the river. It has not been confirmed but BAD may have broke the all
time, 30+ year record of cans pulled from the river with over 5000
cans!!! We be BAD!!!

Just for fun, the council gathers once a year in scenic New
Braunfels to clean the crystal clear Comal River after a season of
tubers have "lost" literally tons of trash. You can be proud that
this is one of the oldest environmental clean up campaigns in the
nation --- we taught the rest of 'em how to do it, Texas style!
Why wait? If you would like to brush up on your diving skills,
practice diving in the shortest river in Texas, enjoy the underwater
view or just need to get wet, New Braunfels just can't be beat. Be
sure to wear your Trashfest T-shirt, and it wouldn't hurt if you
pass this on to both your diving and non-diving friends.
