Scuba Divers Trashfest 2009 in New Braunfels Texas

Bay area Divers won most cans collected in 2006 and it was a record for most cans ever collected. In 2007, we had a lot of fun but didn't place. In 2008, Neil Lowery found a sunk a landscape roller to place in most unusual and BAD managed to place in most every category. As always, we had a great time. We also cleaned up on the door prizes. We won all kinds of great stuff but best of all, a couple of team members won trips. You cannot ask for much more out of a day of diving, beer, BBQ and dive trips! So far, it looks like we will field 2 to 4 teams. When you fill out the BAD registration form, please indicate which team you would like to be on - if you have a preference. There is no guarantee you will be on the team since we may have to do some shuffling but we will try. Also, you do not have to be a diver to participate. Each team has both divers and shore support people. This is an event for everyone.

Just for fun, the council gathers once a year in scenic New Braunfels to clean the crystal clear Comal River after a season of tubers have "lost" literally tons of trash. You can be proud that this is one of the oldest environmental clean up campaigns in the nation --- we taught the rest of 'em how to do it, Texas style!

Why wait? If you would like to brush up on your diving skills, practice diving in the shortest river in Texas, enjoy the underwater view or just need to get wet, New Braunfels just can't be beat. Pass this on to both your diving and non-diving friends. Divers get wet and everyone else can help out.

08:00 AM - 10:00 AM Registration at Comal County Fairgrounds
Teams will be released for diving as soon as they have completed registration. No waiting around for a meeting. You can register any time between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. All team members must be present (with C-Cards) to register.
08:00 AM - 12:00 PM Diving in assigned areas of the Comal River
12:00 PM - 03:00 PM Diving in any part of the Comal River
12:00 PM - 04:00 PM Air fills will be provided by the New Braunfels Fire Dept. at 169 S. Hill Ave

03:00 PM All Trash Due at Check-In Site (Prince Solms Park)

TrashFest is gearing up for another great year. Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us in New Braunfels. Because of the overwhelming success of recent TrashFests, we have been able to cut the cost to participate IN HALF this year. Please see the Registration Info page for details.

TrashFest 2008 Your Entry Fee includes your eligibility to participate in the clean-up and a chance of winning a coveted SUPER SCOOPER T-shirt (these can only be won), a fabulous B-B-Q dinner with beverages and a door prize ticket for a chance to win one of the numerous prizes. You need not be a diver to participate, and kids are welcome to join in.

Remember, the entry fee gets you not only a great day of diving and team competition, but also a BBQ dinner at the after party and a chance to win one of the valuable door prizes. Last year's participants took home over $10,000 in door prizes. Check back throughout the year to see as sponsors and door prizes are added to this year's list.

Registration and Dinner will be held at the Comal County Fairgrounds, 701 E. Common St.
Weigh-in and Trash Collection will be at Prince Solms Park

Team Requirements: Up to eight (8) people, no more than six (6) divers in the water (divers must present C-Card) and two (2) non-divers to act as grounds crew. Teams must provide their own trash receptacles (mesh or plastic bags). All entrants will be assigned to a team if they do not already have a full team. Winning “Super Scooper” t-shirts will be awarded to first, second and third place teams.

Everything collected must come out of the Comal River during the hours of competition. The grounds crews primary responsibility is to assist divers, but they may collect trash from along the river bank.

Category of Entries:
*     Aggregate weight: anything man-made in the river.
*     Most Bottles, Cans, Cups: must be counted with judges supervision.
*     Shoes & Sunglasses: must be counted with the judges supervision.
*     Most Unusual Item (Adult): Age eighteen (18) years and older.
*     Most Unusual Item (Youth): under age eighteen (18) years.

You may enter by weight or item, but not both. Teams must choose at the weigh-in station which category they wish to enter.

Any un-sportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. The decision of the judges is final.

Multiple teams (up to three (3) teams, with a maximum of 24 people) may elect to draw one area of the river as a group:
a. Multiples must inform the judges in advance
b. Only one captain draws for the designated area for the entire group
c. Individual teams must not share or trade trash for the purpose of winning “Super Scooper” t-shirts. It is up to the captain of each team to see that trash is turned in seperately for each team in the group.

Coming from Houston: Exit I-10 at Seguin on Hwy 46 North. Stay on Hwy 46 North under I-35 (becomes Loop 337). Take Loop 337 to Common Street, then left. Registration will be held at the Comal County Fairgrounds on Common Street (on the right).
Coming from San Antonio or Austin: Exit I-35 at Hwy 46/Loop 337. Take Loop 337 to Common Street, then left. Registration will be held at the Comal County Fairgrounds on Common Street (on the right).
