Joel Beckham first got into Diving because of his mother, Nanette Skelly who is also a Bay Area Diver. Joel, has done most of his diving in Texas since May 06 and favorite spot is Lake Travis. Joel is an Eagle Scout, and he enjoys serving special meals this prompted him to going to Culinary school at San Jacinto Central.  After he graduates, he plans to work on Cruise Liner. 

September 2008 - BAD Member of the Month

Dennis Camp (aka Capt Waldo).  Dennis has been diving in and around Texas since 1968, and has traveled the world sharing dive experiences with many local, regional and international divers.  Positions held in the club include Board Member.

Jim has been a boater since the late 1970's and started diving in 2000. He has a strong aversion to cold water and frequents the tropics. His goal is to visit an new island each year and hopes someday to relocate to one. In the meantime, he likes to do local lake and Gulf diving. Jim has been very active in participating in club outings and meetings. Positions held include President, Vice President and Board Member for numerous years.

Shelby Dill is August 2009 member of the month. She joined Bay Area Divers in 2008 after having moved to Tiki Island, Texas. Shelby is an enthusiastic diver and also enjoys Rodeo

and Mardi Gras. Positions held in the club include Treasurer.

Tom passed away on July 5, 2008. He was in a boating accident on Lake Travis. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Mei-Hwa Ferguson lives in Friendswood and has been diving since June 2008. Her daughter, Melanie, and son, Stephen, are newly certified, and diving has become a family activity. Positions held in the club include Membership Director.

Jose became certified at age 13. He first got interested in diving after watching Jacques Cousteau on the television as a young boy. Jose said he was immediately "hooked" on diving, and both his brother and his mother became certified about the same time he first got started. Jose has been a Dive Master for over 6 years. Now, he volunteers at the aquarium at Moody Gardens and both of his adult children are divers. Jose's favorite spots to dive are The Flower Gardens and Cozumel.

Steve has been diving for 35 years. He learned to dive while in Marine graduate school at Port Aransas doing fish research. He became a member of BAD in the early eighties and has been on many club sponsored trips from Mexico & Central America, to the Flower Gardens and Texas lakes.
Positions held in the club include Treasurer and Board Member.

Lanelle Hanagriff is a native Houstonian and has been married for 34 years. She has a 25 year old daughter and 2 grandchildren. She began diving in 2007 and has been a part of B.A.D. since a month after she started diving. In that year she has continually furthered her expertise in the water with 6 specialties and has become a Divemaster. This typifies Lanelle's enthusiasm for things in her life she is passionate about. Positions held in the club include Board Member.

Paul is a native Houstonian and is happily married to the above named woman.  He and Lanelle went on a cruise almost 25 years ago and swore that one day they would learn to scuba dive.  When in Greece in early 2007, they spotted a dive shop and recommitted themselves to learning to dive.  Shortly after, they both began the process of being PADI certified and joined BAD later in the year. 

Positions held in the club include Board Member.

Jim Jenkins has been a diver since 2005. He is married to Tory and has 5 children, 2 of which are divers also. Any type of water sports would be considered his hobby. They moved to the Clear Lake Area one month before Ike came to visit from Galveston.

David Pichler is from League City, Texas.  David has been diving for 22 years and he first became interested in it while taking diving as a college class.  He works for Chevron/Phillips and his favorite place to dive is Turks and Caicos.

January 2009 - BAD Member of the Month

Ja Van has been diving for over 30 years. She wanted to be a diver with she saw the movie "20 Thousand League under the Sea" and watched Jacques Cousteau on the television. She has been a member of Lunarfins, BAD, IDC (International Dive Club) and HUC. She was a member of HUC for over 18 years, several as the cake lady. She was Seaspace Chairperson of the children's activities for 5 years. She was Secretary for TGCC for 4 years. Ja Van was a volunteer cook on the MV Fling and Spree for 14 years and has been the Editor of the BAD newsletter for over 7 years. Ja Van has several favorite spots to dive, some are The Flower Gardens and Stetson Banks, Grand Cayman, Roatan, Costa Rico and best of all lobstering in the Florida Keys. She has won several awards, Diver of the Year for TGCC, HUC and BAD.

Jean Reed is from Galveston and she has been diving since 1988, and her favorite spot to dive is the Cayman Islands.

Sandee Roquemore was the club Secretary for 2008. Sandee has participated in many club activities including local lake diving and the Divers Market. Sandee's daughter Shelby is also a certified diver. She is a fan of anything done in the water and totally in love with diving. Sandee is a Physician Assistant in a local Internal Medicine clinic.

Jim Rosborough shared his experience in volunteerism on projects doing marine research with Earthwatch over the past 12 years. Jim has worked on projects in Belize, Aruba, Jamaica, Barbados, Exuma Cays, Puerto Rico, Bonaire, San Salvador, Hawaii and St. John. Jim has been a diver and explorer for over 50 years. He grew up on the island of Aruba.

Bob Stabe was born in the Panama Canal Zone and he currently lives in Clear Lake. He has been diving since 1969 and his favorite spot to dive is Cozumel.

He started diving in 2006, "for the babes"...........but officially Kyle's reason he started diving he wanted to learn to dive "because it sounded like fun!" Kyle joined BAD in the summer of 2007. Kyle has 5 children who he enjoys spending time with. His favorite spot to dive is Cozumel and he is currently volunteering at Moody Gardens as a diver. His favorite thing about diving is "the view"! Positions held in the club include Vice President.

Kip has been diving since 1977. He is a former Commercial Diver & Diver Medic and currently the Hyperbaric Safety Director for Triumph Hospital Clear Lake. Kip also volunteers as needed for the Moody Gardens Aquarium Dive Team.

BAD Member of the Month - July 2009

Tami was born in Pasadena, and she grew up in Texas City. Tami had wanted to learn to dive for years because she thought it would be interesting, which she says it is, she wanted to meet new people, AND for the health benefits it offers. She started diving July 2007 and got her AOW in August of 2007. Tami really has only been able to do local lake dives so far, but she is looking forward to going to new places very soon. She is an RN at UTMB and she has 2 daughters, ages 22 and 18, and one son, who is 7. Tami is a very friendly person and she would love to get to know everyone in BAD better!

Randy has been diving for over 40 years. In 1968, he got certified. In 1972, he became a dive instructor for the YMCA and he taught for 18 years. Randy has made more than 4,000 dives with more than 500 of those being trips to The Flower Garden. Two of his favorite places to dive are the Flower Gardens and Roatan, Honduras. Randy's wife is a diver, and they have one daughter.

Randy has been very active in participating in club outings and meetings. Positions held include President, Vice President and Board Member for numerous years.

Shirley had been snorkeling for years and it inspired her to go further. Since her kids were grown, she no longer had any reasons not to get certified, she decided to give diving a shot. She became certified in June of 2006. Shirley lives in Webster and she has 2 children, one son and one daughter, and 5 grandchildren. Shirley's favorite places to dive are St. Lucia and Anse Castanet.

Christie has been very active in participating in club outings and meetings. Positions held include President and Vice President.

Christie was voted BAD Diver of the Year 2008 & 2009.
